Gerben Everts is managing director at the AFM (The Netherlands Authority for the Financial Markets). His main areas of responsibility within the AFM Managament Group are: supervision on financial reporting, supervision on auditing, as well as the control & finance function of the AFM.

Everts comes from APG where he held the position of manager Corporate Finance, Control and Risk Management. He also held several ancillary positions in the field of financial reporting and corporate governance. Everts has been working for the AFM since September 2011.

He was chairman of the Audit Committee of Eumedion (interest group of institutional investors), member of the Accounting and Auditing Practices Committee of the International Corporate Governance Network (ICGN), advisor to the IASB and, since 2009, a member of AFM's Financial Reporting Committee.

From 2002 to 2006 he worked in Brussels for the European Commission, DG Internal Market. There he was directly involved, inter alia, in the coordination of the Financial Services Action Plan of former European Commissioner Frits Bolkestein.

Everts worked from 1998 to 2002 at the Ministry of Finance and as senior economist/legal expert he was involved, inter alia, in the introduction of independent public supervision on financial reporting, the tightening of market abuse legislation and the Dutch representation in the EU during the negotiations on, among other things, IFRS.

He started his professional career as an auditor at Pricewaterhouse (the legal predecessor of PwC).

From 1989 to 1996, Everts studied both law and business economics/accountancy in Groningen The Netherlands and became chartered accountant in 1998.

Gerben Everts is married and has two sons.
